Jerry Seinfeld's “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” Shifts to Netflix

Crackle(NEW YORK) — Jerry Seinfeld is making Netflix his new comedy home.

Seinfeld’s Emmy-nominated series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which originally ran on Sony’s streaming service, Crackle, will debut 24 new episodes on Netflix starting in late 2017, Netflix announced Tuesday. Fifty-eight older episodes of the streaming series, which features Seinfeld sharing stories with friends while cruising around in a classic car and sharing a cup of coffee, will also become available at the same time.

As part of the multi-faceted deal, Seinfeld will also shoot two, all-new stand-up shows exclusively for Netflix, the first of which will arrive later this year. Additionally, he’ll help develop scripted and non-scripted comedy programming for Netflix, with other elements of the deal to be announced later.

“We are incredibly proud to welcome him to the Netflix comedy family,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said of Seinfeld, in a statement announcing the deal.

For his part, Seinfeld said, “When I first started thinking about Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, the entire Netflix business model consisted of mailing out DVDs in envelopes.”  He added, I am really quite charged up to be moving there.”
