John Penney Curry

John Penney Curry, loving husband, father, and Papa , of Centre, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Grady Hospital in Atlanta at the age of 71. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

John was born on November 29, 1948 in Gadsden, Alabama to William T. and Elizabeth P. Curry. He received his Bachelors degree in Textile Engineering from Auburn University in 1971 where he also met his wife, Jane Lee who he loved and cared for for many years. John had a passion for hunting, fishing, God’s creation, and Auburn University. He was known for his ability to liven any room and also for his kind, generous spirit. He was a family man and loved his country which he proudly served in the Army. Mr. Curry was a Human Resources Manager in the textile industry for many years. He was a board member at Cherokee Medical Center in Centre, AL for 25+ years and was a current board member at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. He was an active member of Centre First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Lee Curry, son JP (Michelle) Curry of Centre; daughter, Elizabeth (Boyce) Baker of Centre; grandchildren, Harley Curry, Braden Curry, TJ Baker, Wyatt Baker, 1 niece and several cousins. Special Friends: Carl & Linda Brown.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Sprayberry, Carl Brown, Daniel Holcomb, Boyce Baker, Dr. Brian Perry, Dr. Byron Nelson, Scotty Rogers, Bill Crew, Buddy Floyd, James Street, Steve Rogers.

 The family has requested house plants only.
