The news Friday of the passing of Country Music Legend George Jones came as a surprise, given that he was gearing up for a tour this summer.

That tour was to feature a stop at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville and the Forum in Rome.

Tickets for the Rome concert on June 28 were supposed to go on sale Friday, the day Jones died, according to a post on The Forum’s Facebook page.

Local fans had a chance to see him close to home when he played to a packed crowd at The Forum in downtown Rome on March 26th of 2010.

Jones, who was 81, died Friday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

He had been hospitalized since April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure.
