Justice denied! ‘Justice League’ tops the weekend box office, but fails to crack $100 million

Warner Bros.(NEW YORK) — Justice League‘s estimated $96 million haul was enough to top the weekend box office, but fell short of expectations, delivering the lowest opening of any DC Comics film thus far.

There was better news overseas, as the film — starring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher and Ezra Miller — earned an estimated $185.5 million, bring its worldwide total to $281.5 million.

Wonder — starring Julia Roberts, Jacob Tremblay and Owen Wilson — finished a strong second, raking in an estimated $27 million. It beat out Thor: Ragnarok, which fell to third place with an estimated $21.7 million. Internationally, Marvel’s latest superhero film took in an estimated $24.1 million, bringing its global tally to $738.1. Marvel and ABC are owned by Disney.

Finally, Daddy’s Home 2 bowed in fourth place with an estimated $14.8 million haul, and Murder on the Orient Express rounded out the top five, delivering an estimated $13.8 million over the weekend.
