Juvenile Charged With Felony Vehicular Homicide in “Car Jumping” Death

The driver of the vehicle that struck and killed a Model High School student in Floyd County is now facing a felony Vehicular Homicide charge.

According to Floyd County Police spokesperson Jerome Poole the driver, whose name is not being released because he’s a juvenile, is also charged with reckless driving and violation of a provisional license.

He has been released to his guardian.

thomas-kobeSixteen year old Kobe Thomas died at a Chattanooga-area hospital on Sunday from injuries sustained when he was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro on Bert Road on last Friday.

In the initial report, the driver and passengers in the vehicle stated Thomas had stepped in front of the vehicle and the driver did not have time to stop – however Thomas’ mother told an Atlanta television station that her son was trying to “jump” the car.

The police report indicated Thomas went over the hood, roof and the trunk of the car prior to landing in the roadway.
