K-9 Units From Across Cherokee County Conduct Sweep Of Four Cherokee County High Schools, One Arrest Made

K-9 Units from the  Centre Police Department, Cedar Bluff Police Department and Leesburg Police Department assisted the Cherokee County Sheriff’s office K-9 Unit in conducting a sweep of four Cherokee County High Schools for illegal drug activity on Thursday.

Drug Officers made one arrest during the operation. 18 year old Michael Lee Cox was arrested at Sand Rock High School on charges of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree. Cox was booked in at the Cherokee County Detention Center and released a short time later after posting a $1000 bond.

Those that assisted included Cedar Bluff K-9 Officer Chris Vaughn and K-9 Jagger, Leesburg K-9 Officer Investigator Jamie Chatman and K-9 Draco, Centre K-9 Officer Josh Sipsy and K-9 Switch and Sheriff’s Officer K-9 Officer Investigator Jeremy Stepps and K-9 Kelo. Cherokee County Deputies and Investigators also assisted.

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver Said “We appreciate the K-9 Units from the Centre, Cedar Bluff and Leesburg Police Departments in assisting our K-9 Department in today’s operation.”

Sweeps of other schools will be done at a later date.
