WOMEN’S CLUB OF WEISS LAKE GOALS

To help improve the quality of life in our county, the Club sponsors the annual Tour of Homes as our main project.  All of the monies raised is spent in the county. Our main focus is on helping the children. We give to school libraries, food banks and to school programs, as well as a scholarship to Gadsden State Community College.

The Club is made up of members from different areas of the county working together. We welcome new members who are willing to work for our cause.   Interested ladies call the Chamber of Commerce or contact a member.

CLUB HISTORY

The Women’s Club of Weiss Lake began in 1946 as the Cedar Bluff Women’s Club.  The Club has been active since it was formed.

The Club has had many worthwhile projects which helped to better the community and county.  As a Cedar Bluff Women’s Club, they contributed to the Town Park in Cedar Bluff by planting trees and buying park benches.

Major projects the past Club members have begun over the years include Cornwall Furnace Revitalization and Christmas Lights around Cedar Bluff.  Cornwall Park was improved and is now on the Historic Register.  Two other projects spearheaded by Club members were Lights along the Coosa, which we enjoyed for many years and the current Christmas lighting around Cedar Bluff.  Current projects include a scholarship to Gadsden State, donations to the Family Care Center, Cherokee County school elementary libraries, McKinney/Vento program and Extended Family program in County Schools in addition to three Little Free Libraries.

Throughout the years, the Club has had various ways of raising money for their projects but more recently has relied on the annual Christmas Tour of Homes.  This project takes place on the first Sunday in December of each year.  The tour is held in different areas to include all parts of the county.

As the membership began to include women from all parts of the county, the name was changed to Women’s Club of Weiss Lake.  Working together, the Club can be proud to be known as one of the most outstanding organizations in the area.

Information can be obtained by contacting the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce at (256) 927-8455.
