Kevin Spacey seeking “evaluation and treatment” in wake of sexual misconduct allegation

Netflix/David Giesbrecht(LOS ANGELES) — Wednesday night, a representative for embattled House of Cards star Kevin Spacey said in a statement that the actor is “taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment,” after he was accused of making a sexual advance at an actor when the boy was 14.  “No other information is available at this time,” the statement concluded.

Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp told Buzzfeed on Sunday that Oscar winner Spacey had tried to seduce him after inviting Rapp to a party at Spacey’s apartment in the ’80s when the two were appearing on different Broadway shows.

In a twitter message after Rapp’s story appeared, Spacey said he didn’t remember the incident but offered an apology, if he, “did behave then as [Rapp] describes.” But Spacey’s decision to focus the rest of his statement on coming out as gay ignited outrage from comedians, actors and others.

Since Sunday, Netflix has announced that Spacey’s series, House of Cards, would end after the currently-in-production season, then suspended production on that season altogether.  The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences also cancelled plans to honor Spacey with the 2017 International Emmy Founders Award.
