Kilpatrick Man Charged with Murder

A convicted sex offender from DeKalb County was arrested Wednesday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 33-year-old Boaz man.  Brandon Richard Davis, age 50 of Kilpatrick, was charged with the murder of Cory Austin Tidwell earlier that same evening.

According to Boaz Police Chief Josh Gaskin, Davis – who was convicted in 1997 for sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl – knew Tidwell through an adult female acquaintance.

Tidwell’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds around 8:00pm in the 215 block of Woodley Terrace in Boaz.  Officers at the scene performed CPR on Tidwell, who was later pronounced dead.

Davis was shortly thereafter arrested at his home in Kilpatrick without incident on murder charges and reportedly confessed to the killing to Boaz Police investigators.  Tidwell’s body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Huntsville for autopsy.

No motive has been given and no additional information is being released at this time.
