Kurt Duryea Gives Us An Update From The Dixie Youth Baseball And ARPA Softball Tournaments

At the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) softball tournament in Athens, the Centre 8 & under girls picked up three victories yesterday after being edged by Florence 15-14 on Thursday.After a 16-1 win over Heflin, Centre downed Russellville 10-2 and completed the day with an 8-0 shutout over Winfield. Centre continues play today at the Sportsplex in Athens against Boaz.

Meanwhile, the 10 and under girls tournament came to an end after two games. The Centre girls were defeated by Florence and Guntersville.

In the 12 and under grouping, Centre dropping their first game to Lincoln 6-3 and then rebounded for a 6-5 victory over Russellville. Cullman ended Centre’s tournament dream by a final count of 10-4.

The Cherokee American squad completed play in AAA Dixie Youth boys baseball sub-state tournament in Priceville. Cherokee opened with a 15-8 victory over Oxford Gold on Thursday. The Americans followed up that victory up a win and a loss on Friday. The American’s outslugged Central of Florence 23 to 1.

Later Friday evening the American’s fell to Decatur American 4-2. On Saturday, Cherokee had to face Decatur one more time with the winner advancing to the state tournament. Unfortunately, for Cherokee, Decatur was the 11-0 winner and moves on.
