The Cherokee County Lady Warriors won the Class 4A, Area 10 basketball tournament championship Friday evening with a 44-31 victory over Jacksonville. Jordyn Starr and Laney Kate Johnson led the Lady Warriors with 15 and 14 points respectively. The Lady Warriors, coached by Leah Nelson, will host a sub-regional game on Monday against Talladega.
The Collinsville Panthers won the Class 2A, Area 14 tournament championship Friday night with a 55-52 victory over Asbury. Isaac Jones earned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player honor after posting 25 points and seven rebounds. Caleb Pruitt and Kaleb Jones were also selected to the all-tournament team, along with Sand Rock’s Garyn Sharp and Cade Ballenger, and Asbury’s Matthew Wilson and Josh Pelham. The Panthers, coached by Jon Tidmore, will host North Sand Mountain in sub-regional action on Tuesday.
