The Alabama Department of Public Health data for Wednesday, August 5th showed a jump of 886 cases since the day before (Tuesday, August 4th) bringing the state’s running total to 91,776 cases with the death toll from COVID-19 climbing to a total of 1,639.
Those new COVID-19 case numbers for August 4th (963) and August 5th (886), are the first back-to-back daily increases below 1,000 since July 6th and 7th – with numbers of 935 and 888 respectively
Cherokee County has so far seen a total of 249 confirmed cases with another 22 being listed as “probable” with seven deaths resulting from the illness; one other listed as “probable”.
Of the 555 people tested locally for COVID-19 during the past 14 days, 70 results came back positive.
Numbers in neighboring counties are as follows:
Calhoun – 1,627 confirmed cases with 13 deaths;
Cleburne – 121 confirmed cases with 1 death;
DeKalb – 1,721 confirmed cases with 13 deaths;
Etowah – 1,967 confirmed cases with 28 deaths.
The number of presumed recoveries statewide currently stands at 37,923.
