Leesburg Hires Centre Police Corporal As New Police Chief

The Town of Leesburg has hired Centre Police Department Corporal Brent Grimes as their new Police Chief, that decision came following a lengthy Executive Session during the regular meeting of the Town Council on Monday.

Chief Grimes will take over on March 20th and will be on a 90-day probationary period, the town will also be taking applications for a certified police officer through March 24th and will fill the position during the councils April 3rd meeting.

In other business, the council received for review a copy of the 2015-2016 audit and also voted to host the 2018 Alabama Bass Trail Tournament at the Leesburg Landing at a cost of $7,500. Mayor Brandy Pierce said that the town will be asking the county in addition to surrounding municipalities to also pitch in.

A seven person Event Committee was appointed to assist the council in the planning of the towns major events throughout the year – those appointed to the committee were; Fire Chief Jeremy Lee, Jeff Smith, Kenneth Farley, Donna Brown, Melissa Rodriguez, Tonya Ransum and Tammy Acker.

The council also approved several amendments to the employee handbook and also approved a raise for Officer Jimmy DeBerry.Fire Department Chief Jeremy Lee was granted permission to spend $2,400 for the purchase of new fire hose for both of the towns trucks.

 The Leesburg Town Council regularly meets on the first Monday of the month at 5:00 p.m. with a work session at 4:30 p.m.
