Leesburg Investigator Receives Recognition For His Actions During A Water Rescue On Weiss Lake

Leesburg Investigator Jamie Chatman was recognized by the Town Council during Leesburg Day on Saturday. Chatman was presented a plaque in appreciation for his “uncompromised competence and integrity, for using courage and compassion and for providing such meaningful service to the citizens of the Town of Leesburg.”

Back on May 6 of this year, Chatman along with other emergency workers entered Weiss Lake at the Leesburg Landing to assist several individuals who become caught in the current. Chatman was among the first on the scene and stayed in the water with the victims until rescue boats could arrive. Chatman and a rescue worker were later taken to the hospital and treated after being overcome with exhaustion.

Leesburg Police Chief Brent Grimes said that he is extremely proud of Investigator Chatman and commended him for his actions.
