Leesburg Town Council Appoints New Town Clerk

Following a lengthy Executive Session of the Leesburg Town Council on Monday the council has agreed to hire Chelsi Agan from Assistant Town Clerk to Town Clerk filling the position vacated by longtime Town Clerk Jennifer Mackey, that move opened up the position of Assistant Town Clerk with the council voting to hire Susan Williams to fill that position.

In other business the council voted to approve minutes from the previous meetings in addition to the previous months expenditures. The council also approved the Town’s 2018 Fiscal Year Budget.

The council also discussed demolishing an old home in the town park to make way for a restroom facility. Following some brief discussion the council voted to move forward with taking sealed bids to have the house taken down and having it completely moved.  

Also approved was the renegotiated E-911 Contract, the purchase of a 2018 Chevy Tahoe for the police department and the renewal of the Forensics Sciences agreement with the JSU Center for Applied Forensics.

The council also voted to purchase a new ice machine for the town. Pending paperwork being sent to Alabama Power, the council voted to send a $500 deposit for the office facility at the Leesburg Landing. At the recommendation of Leesburg Fire Chief Jeremy Lee, the council voted to purchase new fire hose for the departments brush truck in the amount of $600.

Also, at the recommendation of Police Chief Brent Grimes the council has agreed to lease a copy machine for the police department for 60 months at a cost of $75 per month.

Mayor Brandy Pierce stated that the date for the ‘Trunk or Treat’ has been backed up to October 28 starting at 5:00 p.m., more information will be released later this week as the Special Events Committee is meeting on Thursday.

The town also opened sealed bids to remove three trees over a pumping station with the bid being awarded to Blake Broome in the amount of $475.
