Leesburg Town Council Approves Project to Extend Sewer Lines to Areas not Currently Served

The Leesburg Town Council approved a resolution for a CDBG project extending sewer lines to areas not currently served. The new construction will be to serve Hale Street and connecting areas. The resolution was adopted during the regular Council meeting Monday. In other business, the council approved a contract with Sweetwater Security Systems of Gadsden to upgrade the Town’s camera system. Mayor Pierce said the Town currently has about 40 cameras but some were not working. The new system is supposed to cover more area with only 30 cameras, three monitors, three DVR’s, and seven or eight access points. The cost is $750 per month for four years which includes service and maintenance on the system.

The Council also approved expenditures of $27532 for a new Ford F-250 pickup truck for a maintenance vehicle, $1500 for additional water safety and rescue equipment for the police and fire departments. The Alabama Bass Trail Contract for May 2020 was approved with at a cost of $7500. The recent tournament from the Leesburg Landing had 211 boat teams participating and was deemed a huge success for the Town. Contracts were also approved for RDS-ALATAX to collect the tobacco tax and lodging tax for the Town.

The Next Leesburg Town Council Meeting is set for the first Monday in each month with planning session at 4:30 and meeting at 5.
