Leesburg Town Council Meeting

During the Monday Leesburg Town Council Meeting, the Pre-Council meeting began at 4:30 with Landon Marx an animal science agent with the Alabama Extension Office and Jennifer Mackey speaking to the Council about October 23rd as Extension Week.  The Alabama Extension is involved with community development, 4-H and Youth, Food and Nutrition. Their goal is improving the quality of life and economic well-being in every Alabama Community.

Mike Sewell presented the Council with the audit results. In the general fund for Leesburg, there is $1,400,000. The Town of Leesburg is in a very good financial state, according to Auditor Sewell.

The council approved going forward with the Leesburg Landing Weigh-In Station.

Mayor Brandy Pierce, spoke about painting the clerk’s office and kitchen. The estimated cost is $2750.00. This along with the construction of the storage building on the Lokey Street property and the purchase of paint for bathrooms in the park landing at a cost of $1500 were approved.

Mayor Pierce spoke at length about entertainment for the 2024 Leesburg Day; with gospel singing, Gold City and Worth the Wait. This was approved.

The council approved travel for Councilor Rodriguez to attend a conference at Perdido Beach in November. The cost is $1375.00, which was approved.

Mayor Pierce, spoke about the Alabama Bass Trail Fishing Tournament and the Back the Blue Fishing Tournament.

Trunk-or Treat will be on October 28th

The Next Leesburg Town Council will be on October 16th.
