The Leesburg Town Council held their regular monthly meeting on Monday. Items to be approved on the agenda included minutes from the previous meeting and monthly expenditures. Following some brief discussion, the council also approved a $100 rental fee for the softball fields and concession stand for an upcoming tournament.
The council adopted Resolution #2020-04 for the appointment of Election Officers, those include; Donna Brown, Joy Johnson, Virginia Agan and Dale Agan. The council also voted to change the date of September meeting to September 8 due to the Labor Day Holiday falling on Monday.
Certificates of Election for officers elected without opposition was also adopted for those council members who will be running in the municipal election unopposed.
Sealed bids were also opened and approved for patching and paving of specified city streets – only one bid was received with that being from Wiregrass Construction from Gadsden in the amount of just over $80,000. Those streets on the list to be paved include;
- Riverside Street
- Park Street
- Tillery Street
- Lakefront Street
- Oak Street
- Lokey Street
- Mackey Street
- Bucko Lane
The council also approved an advertisement for the acceptance of sealed bids for repair of Park Pavilion #2. Bids will be opened at the September 8th council meeting.
The council also approved the hiring of Leesburg resident Seth Bishop as a full-time police officer. Bishop has worked at the Cherokee County Detention Center since 2017 and graduated from the police academy back on July 25. His first official day with the Leesburg PD will be August 10th.
