Leesburg Town Council Meeting

Only a few items were agenda for approval during Monday’s meeting of the Leesburg Town Council.

The council approved the minutes from the previous meeting and received a review of the previous months expenditures. The council also approved applications for police officers to be posted until the positions are filled.

Supply requests were also approved for both the police and fire departments.

Among the ‘other business’ that was discussed was a request from Police Chief Jamie Chatman concerning the allotment of funds from the towns portion of COVID Relief Funds. Chatman requested the amount of $5,000  for employees that have been employed since September of 2020 to those currently employed and $1,500 for employees hired on after that time frame. There are 6 employees that meet the $5,000 criteria and 2 that meet the $1,500 criteria.

Chief Chatman was requesting a total of $33,000 out the $240,000 awarded to the town. Following an extensive  and at times intense conversation no decision was immediately made concerning the matter.

The date for the annual Trunk or Treat has been set for October 30th and the Christmas in the Park event will be held December 4th.
