Liam Neeson says he’s not retiring from action films, but “Taken” is “done”

ABC News/Jeff Swartz(NEW YORK) — Liam Neeson might not be considering any more Taken movies, but he hasn’t retired his “particular set of skills” for good.

He hasn’t given up on action movies, but of the series of films that made him an unlikely action hero, Taken, Neeson joked with ABC’s Peter Travers, “There’s only so many times your daughter can get taken. C’mon! No, that’s done.”

Neeson, 65, joked that he and Maggie Grace, his co-star who plays the role of his oft-abducted daughter in the  film series, have texted each other goofy scenarios that would keep the Taken franchise rolling along. “You have a child,” Neeson recalls texting. “Child gets taken. I’d been babysitting.”

For now, the Oscar-nominated actor can be seen in his new film Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House. Neeson’s character is Mark Felt, better known as Deep Throat, the FBI source who provided inside information to Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, who in turn exposed the Watergate scandal that forced President Richard Nixon to resign.

“People say, why did he do it? Why did he spill the beans?” Neeson told Travers.  “In FBI circles he would be regarded as a traitor. But I want to believe first off he was very upset that when [J. Edgar] Hoover died, Mark Felt didn’t get the number-one position. He was very hurt by that, as indeed were a lot of other FBI agents. I think that spurred him on.”

Neeson added, “So I think Felt saw or predicted that this was going straight up to the top. These covert operations, this criminality was coming from the West Wing.”

“Yeah, it was different from beating up bad guys,” he noted.
