Local 4H Quiz Bowl Team To Compete In National Competition

Despite what was a packed agenda it was a relatively brief meeting for the Cherokee County School Board on Tuesday.

During that meeting board members recognized 4H Quiz Bowl Winners; Eason Reece, James Isaac Rogers, Wesley Rogers and Taylor Parker. This team took first place at the state competition in the Live Stock Quiz Bowl and will now advance to the national competition in Nebraska.

The board also approved the appointment of Ricky Pollard to the Superintendent’s 2016/2017 Sick Leave Committee.

The board also voted to renew contracts for the 2016/2017 Alabama Trust for Boards of Education Automobile Fund Participation as well as the 2016/2017 Alabama Trust for Boards of Education General Liability/Errors and Omissions Liability Fund Participation.

An agreement was also approved with CED Mental Health Center for Health Services and low bids were accepted for a Google Console License from Best Buy, Fuel Bid from Cedar Bluff Oil, HVAC Bid from Wittichen Supply Co., Garbage Bid from EC Waste and Propane Bid from Thompson Gas.

Energy Savings Budgets were also approved for Cherokee County High School and Gaylesville School.

Personnel items approved included the resignation of Donna Grubbs, Bus Driver for Centre Schools.

Certified Placements were; Colleen McGinnis – Reading Specialist at Cedar Bluff School and Hannah Deaton – Elementary School Teacher at Cedar Bluff School.

Classified Placements were; Linda Weaver – CNP Worker at Centre Middle School and Karen Willmon – Centre Bus Driver.

Contract Changes were; Mary Jane Bradley from full-time Special Ed Teacher at Centre Elementary School to half-time Special Education Teacher at Centre Elementary/half-time Special Education Teacher at Centre Middle School and Sheri Ray from 8 hour Special Education Paraprofessional/Bus Aide at Centre Elementary School to 7 ½ hour Special Education Paraprofessional at Centre Elementary.

Current Job Postings include; Elementary RTI Instructional Tutor at Sand Rock School, Secondary RTI Instructional Tutor at Sand Rock School, Extended Leave Temporary Teacher Contracts at Cedar Bluff School and also at Centre Elementary School
