Man Accused of Fraudulently Soliciting Donations for Child Battling Cancer and Other Charities

The Gadsden Police Department is asking anyone who may have given money to Keith Alan Rose to contact Gadsden Police Detective Rick Jones, at (256) 549-4624 OR Detective Clark Thompson, at (256) 549-4645.

Rose, age 51, is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center accused of fraudulently soliciting donations for a child battling cancer.  He is also suspected of collecting donations around the area such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, disabled veterans and other organizations – without the money ever making it to those charities.

Police Sergeant John Hallman says investigators are asking anyone who may have donated to Rose, or been approached by him, to call police.

Court records show Rose was booked into jail Wednesday on a charge of theft by deception, however it wasn’t immediately clear whether that charge is in connection to the accusation that he is fraudulently collecting donations.  He is being held without bond.

Rose was arrested in July in an unrelated case of Theft by Deception for “obtaining control” of a $26,000 Kia Optima.  He was arrested in that case on July 7th, and released from jail on August 15th after posting bond.
