Man Arrested After Being Seen Stuffing Hundreds of Lottery Tickets Down His Pants

Lotto 2People are always trying to beat the odds, but few resort to the extreme measures taken by one Menlo man who decided to steal as many tickets as he could stuff down his pants.

According to a report by the Summerville News – 32 year old Michael Kelly Kirby is accused of stealing hundreds of tickets from a Summerville convenience store last Friday.

According to Detective Ty Hutchins the store owners didn’t realize the tickets were missing until days later, when after reviewing surveillance video, they witnessed a man shoving the tickets down his pants.

Hutchins said the tickets were taken from an unlocked safe in the office.

Kirby was recognized when he returned to the same store in order to cash in his winning lottery tickets.

Following a 9-1-1 call, officers quickly arrived on the scene and took Kirby into custody.

A search of his vehicle turned up a small amount of marijuana and several lottery tickets – a search warrant was later executed at his home where officers found the remainder of those tickets.

Kirby stands charged with Theft by Taking, Possession of Marijuana (more than one ounce) and with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.
