Cherokee County deputies arrested a Dalton, Georgia man over the weekend, in connection with what turned out to be a break-in at a business on U.S. Highway 278 near the state line.

Law enforcement originally responded to the location Saturday due to a call reporting a fire at the fireworks stand; however, upon arrival they instead found the suspect trapped inside the building that he was apparently attempting to rob.  The man was identified as 44 year old Scottie Richard Guffey.  Cleburne County deputies and Spring Garden firefighters also responded to the scene. 

Firefighters checked the structure and made sure there was no fire, and at that point Guffey was placed under arrest and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center – where he remains with bond set at $5,500. 

He stands charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree.
