Man Arrested in Connection with Death of Jacksonville Resident Whose Body was discovered in North Carolina

An arrest has been made in connection with the death of an Alabama man whose body was found in a North Carolina canal last month.

The body of Jon Eric Morris, age 54 from Jacksonville, was discovered by a fisherman in the canal on Kenric Road in Lumberton.  Kenric Road runs parallel to I-95.

Morris was last seen November 20th in Jacksonville driving a pickup truck that was hauling a kayak.  His vehicle was later found in Robeson County, however the kayak was missing.

Authorities have not yet said how Morris died.  An exact cause of death is pending the completion of the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s autopsy.  The final autopsy report will determine if any additional charges will be filed.  On Tuesday, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 47 year old Brian Keith Locklear on charges of Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and Concealment and/or Failure to Report a Death.

The Eastern District of North Carolina ATF, the FBI, the Deep Branch Fire Department, Chatsworth Police Department and the Jacksonville Police Department all assisted with the investigation.

Anyone with additional information on this case is being encouraged to contact Lt. Brandon Patterson at (910) 671-3100.
