A cashier at Ingles Supermarket in Summerville brought an illegal transaction to a fast stop recently when someone came in and attempted to pay for items using a check belonging to a person who had passed away. According to Summerville Police, the cashier knew the family of the deceased man, and told the person trying to cash the check they needed to provide Identification.
The suspect then said he was going out to his vehicle to retrieve his ID, but of course, he left without coming back in the store.
Police believe that the suspect stole the check from a truck parked at the family’s house.
The investigation into the matter continues.
