Anniston Man Charged with Burglary also Found to be in Possession of Pipe Bomb

An Anniston man spotted during the midst of a burglary at an Anniston home in the 600 block of Buttram Drive shortly before 10:30 Friday morning – was in custody less than half-an-hour later.

34 year old Johnny Wade Stevens was taken into custody in the 1400 block of Beck Road and he was charged with burglary and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Things went from bad to worse for Stevens – as officers found a homemade pipe bomb inside his truck. 

The ATF in Birmingham was then called for assistance along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, who detonated the device.

According to ABC 33/40 the investigation into the matter is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
