The individual who raced onto the field and tackled a player during a Wednesday afternoon Cedar Bluff football practice is out on bond after being charged with Assault 3rd Degree.

Two players were involved in a scuffle, when a parent, identified as 39 year old Jeffery Lane Crane of Cedar Bluff, ran onto the field and took one of the players to the ground.

Apparently, the student was taken to an area medical facility to be checked out afterwards.

Crane reportedly turned himself in to Cedar Bluff Police the following day, and posted $500 bond on the warrant, and was released at that time.  No mugshot of Crane was available.

Cherokee County Superintendent Mitchell Guice informed WEIS Radio News that as a result of his actions, Crane has been banned from all Cedar Bluff school events – at this point that’s permanently, unless a decision is made at some point in the future to change that.

Crane is scheduled to appear in Cedar Bluff Municipal Court, before Judge Shane Givens – on Thursday, November 10th.

No additional information being released at this time.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
