A guilty plea has finally laid to rest, somewhat, an almost two-decade old murder case.

Chen Shi, now 39, recently pled guilty to a charge of murder in connection with the death of a 27 year old Jacksonville State University student back in 1996.

The decomposed body of Zihui “Linda” Liu, was discovered December 16th of that year in a ravine along the roadside in Glencoe; she had missing for about two months when the body was found.

Investigators were looking at Shi almost from the start, however he left town and stayed on the run for almost 15 years.

ShiHe was finally arrested in 2011 while working at a restaurant in Minnesota.

Following his plea Shi was credited with serving some four years in the Calhoun County Jail – he received an additional 15 years of supervised probation.

According to the Anniston Star, he also faces deportation back to China.

Shi’s attorneys said his plea was not an admission of guilt.
