Man Facing Multiple Charges After Fleeing From Police

A Summerville man is facing a number of charges after attempting to flee from law enforcement.

Police had responded to a complaint about possible drug activity in the area of Franks Street, and when one of the officers noticed an individual acting in a suspicious manner – he approached the man.  As soon as the subject saw the officer coming his way, he ran north on the railroad tracks – then fled into a nearby wooded area.

Another officer saw the man run across Highway 27 into the parking lot of a local restaurant, and after he refused to stop, the subject was subdued through the use of pepper spray behind the BBQ business.

According to reports, the suspect – identified as 27 year old William Stancil, dropped a black bag as well as his wallet during the chase; the bag allegedly contained some five ounces of marijuana

Stancil was charged with the possession of more than an ounce of marijuana and with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a housing project, possession of drug-related objects and obstruction of an officer.
