Man Injured in Fall at Cherokee Rock Village on Saturday Evening

Cherokee County authorities and a variety of emergency personnel, responded to Cherokee Rock Village over the weekend after a 20 year old male was injured in a fall.

Witnesses said shortly before 6:00pm Saturday the man had jumped from one rock ledge to another when he lost his footing and fell approximately 50 to 80 feet into a gorge.

Cherokee County Rescue Squad members with assistance provided by a number of bystanders , the Sand Rock Fire Department and Paramedics rescued the victim by placing him in a basket, and pulling him up the vertical wall of rock.

The victim had suffered lacerations about the head and face but was conscious.

He was air-lifted from the scene to a Huntsville area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Sand Rock Fire Department and Cherokee EMS also responded to the scene.

No information has been released regarding the extent of the victim’s injuries.
