Man Scores 10 Interviews with Resume Delivered in a Box of Doughnuts

Hemera/Thinkstock(SAN FRANCISCO) — An innovative young job seeker came up with a creative and delicious twist to get his foot in the door.

Lukas Yla, 25, disguised himself as a Postmates delivery man and hand-delivered his resume inside a box of doughnuts to potential employers at top tech companies in the San Francisco area.

Yla included a note inside the box of doughnuts that read, “Most resumes end up in trash, Mine — in your belly.”

Yla moved to California from Lithuania and said he knew he would need to be creative when it came to landing a job.

“I felt stuck in my comfort zone in Vilnius, Lithuania, and it felt as the right moment to challenge myself,” he said. “How far can I go in a city where competition is much tougher, where I know no one? I don’t have work experience in USA, and probably I will need to start all over again.”

After delivering doughnut boxes to 40 companies, Yla landed 10 job interviews.

“I was looking for the most direct way to reach decision makers at the companies,” he said. “I thought that I might fail competing only on ‘resume level’ with other candidates that have work experience in San Francisco.”
