Man Taken Into Custody Following Lengthy Standoff With Police In Calhoun County

A 49-year-old man was taken into custody after a standoff with Calhoun County sheriff deputies following two 911 domestic violence calls early Saturday morning.

The sheriff’s office said the Wesley Mark Goodson was arrested on multiple charges after it took deputies between four to five hours to get him out of a home he’d barricaded himself in on Highway 9 in the 4000 block.

Sheriff Matthew Wade said when deputies arrived to the home after the first call, Goodson had fled from the residence before deputies arrived.

Deputies stayed on the scene and took a report from a female victim.

Sherriff Wade said Goodson likely called the victim after deputies left to come and pick him up.

When Goodson and the victim got back to the residence, the victim told authorities that Goodson became violent again and grabbed a knife.

The victim called 911 and left the residence.

Sheriff Wade said when deputies arrived at the residence again, they found Goodson barricaded in the front bedroom.

Sherriff Wade said Goodson was very irate and threatened deputies. A crisis negotiations team was called to assist.

Deputies were able to get Goodson to surrender when a gas was released into the residence.

Sheriff Wade said when deputies entered the residence they found Kratom, spice and marijuana inside the house. They believe Goodson could have been under the influence of either of these drugs.

Goodson’s charges include domestic violence, possession of controlled substances, obstructing government operations and possession of marijuana.

No injuries were reported.

This is the second standoff in the county within the past three days.
