Man Wanted in Connection With Sand Rock Assault/Robbery Now Behind Bars

A Ft Payne man wanted on assault and robbery charges in connection with an incident that occurred last Saturday (May 13th) in Sand Rock – is now behind bars.

According to information in a News Release issued by Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver – 41 year old Sheldon Williams was located on Tuesday (May 16th), at a convenience store in neighboring Floyd County, Georgia by Chief Investigator Josh Summerford.  Authorities there placed Williams under arrest charging him with several crimes, including Possession of Methamphetamine with the Intent to Distribute, being a Fugitive from Justice and Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

He will eventually be extradited from the Floyd County Jail back to DeKalb County, Alabama for a Parole Revocation Warrant, and to Cherokee County where he’ll face several charges – robbery, assault and theft included.  Sheriff’s Office Investigators have recovered a number of items found in the possession of the suspect.  Sheriff Shaver stated he greatly appreciates the cooperation and assistance of Floyd County law enforcement in this case.
