Man Who Went on Shooting Spree Shot and Killed by Law Enforcement

A man was shot and killed by law enforcement officers early Tuesday morning after apparently going on a shooting spree on U.S. Highway 278 in Blount County, Alabama State Troopers say that the incident started at approximately 7:00 a.m., when Blount County 911 received reports of a person discharging a firearm at motorists on U.S. 278 in Blount County.

The person fled the scene in a vehicle and subsequently fired at additional persons. At approximately, 8:16 a.m., a Blount County deputy observed a vehicle on U.S. 231 matching the description of the vehicle involved in the previously reported shootings.

The subject fled from law enforcement and a vehicle pursuit ensued. Preliminary indications are the subject fired upon pursuing law enforcement. The subject’s vehicle crashed at U.S. 278 near AL Hwy 79 in Blount County. Gunfire was exchanged between the subject and law enforcement at this location. The subject has been pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is leading the investigation into the officer involved shooting. Marshal County and Blount County Sheriff’s Departments along with numerous other local law enforcement agencies are assisting in the effort of piecing together today’s chain of events to include determining the total number and severity of injuries.

The subject’s name is being withheld pending notification of the family. Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.
