March Education Briefs From Gadsden State

The Gadsden State Community College Music Department is currently holding open auditions for the 2021-2022 Show Band, Gadsden State Singers and A Cappella Choir.  Full- or half-tuition scholarships are available to Alabama residents and U.S. citizens and are awarded upon a successful audition. Gadsden State offers painting classes to the public 

Gadsden, Ala.—The Continuing Education Department at Gadsden State Community College has a series of painting classes open to the public. All classes are 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Administration Building Auditorium on the East Broad Campus. All supplies are provided.

The first class is March 9. Participants will paint a 10×20 gnome bunny. Cost is $40 for the 10×20 art. The second class is scheduled for March 16. Participants will paint a two-piece laser cut wooden door hanger that features flowers, gardening boots and “Welcome Spring.” The cost is $60. The third class is March 23. Participants will paint an 8×10 cardinal, Gadsden State’s mascot. The cost is $35. The final class is March 25. It’s open to couples, who will create a conjoined 11×14 piece of art. The cost is $75 per couple.

Spring Mini Term II registration continues at Gadsden State

Gadsden, Ala.–Online registration continues at Gadsden State Community College for Spring Mini Term II through March 5 with classes beginning March 4.  Gadsden State is reintroducing the Cardinal Promise Scholarship for this term in an effort to increase affordability of for-credit academic and technical courses.  The purpose of the “buy-one, get-one” option is to assist students who may be facing financial challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The scholarship allows eligible students to purchase up to nine paid hours while receiving an equivalent number of credit hours tuition-free.  Visit www.gadsdenstate.edu and click on the link to “OneACCS” at the top of the page to begin the registration process.  To be admitted, go to www.gadsdenstate.edu/apply. Gadsden State Continuing Education to offer CPR Training

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering CPR training from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 5 for anyone interested in learning the life-saving technique. The training sessions will be held at Jarvis Hall on the East Broad Campus. Cost is $60.   “While offering the in-person course, we will follow all guidelines in place to help curb the spread of the coronavirus,” said Pam Clough, director of Continuing Education. “This includes wearing a mask, practicing social distancing as much as possible, completing a wellness questionnaire, getting temperature checks and signing a waiver. We want to be able to provide wonderful educational opportunities safely.”

Gadsden State to host Graduation Fair 2021

Gadsden, Ala.– Gadsden State Community College is hosting live and virtual student success workshops to provide an opportunity for freshmen and sophomores to explore graduation from Gadsden State. 

Graduation Fair 2021 will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 10 in Inzer Hall Cafeteria and a virtual session will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 11.  Students may email ARC@gadsdenstate.edu for the link to login. 

The Graduation Fair provides multiple college resources to retention and graduation for students to be successful upon graduation, completion of a certificate program, transferring to a four-year university or entering the workforce.

Gadsden State to host informational session about FAME program

Anniston, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College is hosting a FAME informational session at 6 p.m. March 11. The event will be in person at the Advanced Manufacturing Center Auditorium on the Ayers Campus and streamed on Facebook Live via the East Alabama FAME page at https://www.facebook.com/GSCCFAME/.  FAME– Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education—is a partnership between Gadsden State and East AlabamaWorks. The apprentice-style training program leads to an Associate in Science in Industrial Automation Technology after five semesters of instruction that support advanced manufacturing technology. Gadsden State Continuing Ed to offer Pilates class

Gadsden, Ala.– Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering a 10-week Pilates course from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. each Thursday beginning April 8.  Beginner, intermediate and advanced modifications will be offered throughout each class to make the workout suitable for all fitness levels.  Course objectives include improving flexibility, increasing muscle strength and toning the entire body with particular focus on the core.  Participants may attend virtually via Zoom or in person.  Once payment is received all participants will be contacted with a Zoom link or location information. Cost is $120.00 for 10 weeks and class size is limited.

ACT Prep courses offered

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering four sessions of ACT Prep Courses.  Students can participate in the Cardinal Tutoring Center on Gadsden State’s Wallace Drive Campus or via ZOOM.  Guidelines are in place to help curb the spread of the coronavirus during the in-person classes. Guidelines include wearing a mask, practicing social distancing as much as possible, completing a wellness questionnaire, getting temperature checks and signing a waiver.

Saturday morning sessions are offered from 8 a.m. to noon April 10 and June 5.  Evening sessions are offered from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 6 and 8 and June 1 and 3.  Students can register for the session(s) of their choice. Registration cost is $99 for four hours of instruction.  Once a student registers, a confirmation email will be sent containing instructions, items needed for the class and a link to the online session(s), if applicable.
