Marshall County Man Charged After “Crashing” Fireworks Party

A Marshall County man is out on bond after he allegedly went into a rage over fireworks.

Witnesses say he ruined a New Year’s Eve church service by running over fireworks with his truck – narrowly missing a youth pastor in the process.

26 year old Dewey Meador is charged with public intoxication, reckless endangerment and obstructing governmental operations.

The usual fireworks show at the predominantly Hispanic church in Douglas changed tone quickly Thursday. Police said they were called in after the man decided to use his truck to break up the fireworks party.

The Pastor and other church leaders helped guide partygoers back from the truck, but after Meador made a first pass, his return was directed at the fireworks across the street – as they were being set off.

Witnesses said the man then drove to his home nearby. Alvarez said it was fortunate children were not struck by the truck or any of the side-shooting fireworks.

Meador was released Friday on $2,000 bond. He is due in court Feb. 9.
