Attorney General Steve Marshall claimed victory in the runoff for a Republican nomination for the position of Attorney General Tuesday, defeating former AG Troy King. The Associated Press reported that Marshall received 211,652 votes, that’s 62% – to King’s 129,409 votes, or 38%.  Marshall will face Democrat Joseph Siegelman in November.

Meanwhile Lowndesboro Mayor Richard Stewart Pate beat out Gerald Dial, 44 year veteran of the Alabama Senate, for the second time in the race for Agriculture Commissioner.  After beating Dial by 10 percentage points in the primary, Pate took the GOP runoff on Tuesday – there is no Democratic candidate for the position on the ballot in November. 

Also, Will Ainsworth won the race for the Republican nomination for Alabama Lt. Governor against Public Service Commissioner Twinkle Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh conceded shortly after 9:30pm in the closest of the statewide Alabama primary runoff races; with 100% of the precincts reporting Ainsworth had 176,643 votes or 51.49% and Cavanaugh had 166,432 votes, or 48.51%.  Afterwards Ainsworth thanked a number of people – including Cavanaugh – who he said he looked forward to working with in the future.  In return Cavanaugh thanked Ainsworth and said she would be pulling for him in November.
