Mayor Requests Vacating the Office of Police Chief During Monday’s Cedar Bluff Town Council Meeting

It was a busy day for Cedar Bluff officials Monday.

The Town of Cedar Bluff held a public hearing at 4:00pm for “public comment” on the application to rezone a 15 acre parcel which is located between Rocky Ford Road and Cherokee Drive.

That application was made by Tucker Cove LLC of Cedar Bluff – seeking to change the zoning from the current residential classification, to that of C-2 General Business, for the purpose of building lodging facilities, a restaurant and bar, camping facilities and watercraft rental.

More than 60 residents of Cedar Bluff turned out for the meeting – taking place in the Community Center.  Mayor Tammy Crane and the council heard from 21 persons who had signed in to speak; there were also attorneys for the property owner seeking the change and for the residents of the immediate area who were opposed to the change.

That meeting lasted more than an hour, with Mayor Crane telling those in attendance that the council would not consider the issue at the 5:30 council meeting, and instead expected the council to take it up at their August meeting.

Following a 50-minute executive session – the Cedar Bluff Town Council re-convened the regular meeting and immediately Mayor Crane requested that the Council vacate the Office of Police Chief, effective immediately.

The motion was then made, with a second, to vacate the office with the council voting unanimously for approval of the motion.

Cedar Bluff Police Chief Chris O’Neal was in attendance at that meeting and gave the council a report for the previous month on department activities, which included 30 Incident & Offense reports, 3 accident reports, 9 arrests being made with 27 citations issued.

In other business the council approved a resolution to open a new bank account with Peoples Bank of Alabama, for the purpose of administering funds from the Alabama Rescue Plan which is part of the COVID Relief Plan.
