Mayor Warns “Do Not Ignore Barricades Placed Around City of Centre; They’re There for Your Safety”

As you may have noticed a number of barricades have been placed across the City of Centre barring entranceways to parks, ball fields and other gathering places; that has been done in conjunction with the recent order issued by Governor Kay Ivey to Shelter-in-Place, and also avoid contact with anyone unless absolutely necessary.

Trips to go to work, to obtain food and medications, to receive health care and certain other basic needs are of course allowed however, recreational outings are restricted.

The Centre Police Department has received numerous reports that many barricades placed within the city limits are being ignored, with people parking across the street – then simply walking around them – and in other instances, removing the barricades before driving onto the closed property.

Mayor Tony Wilkie reminds everyone that the placing of these barricades has been taken in accordance with the governor’s directive and for the safety of the public at large and should there continue to be a problem with people violating the rules CITATIONS WILL BE ISSUED

Everyone is encouraged to do everything possible, in order to reduce the risk of contracting the coronavirus; the City of Centre and Mayor Tony Wilkie are doing their part to help keep the citizens of the municipality safe.
