Meghan Trainor on “The Four”: “Even my 95-year-old nana’s gonna love it!”

Brian Bowen Smith/FOX (LOS ANGELES) — Tonight on FOX, “All About That Bass” singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor will make her debut as one of four panelists on the new singing competition show The Four: Battle for Stardom

As the only female star on the panel, the Grammy-winner predicts she’ll be an “emotional and helpful” judge to the contestants. The premise of The Four is that there are no auditions: it begins with four finalists. Each week, newcomers try to knock the finalists out of the competition and take their spot.  The one singer left standing will get to have the panel — Meghan, Sean “Diddy” Combs, DJ Khaled, and record exec Charlie Walk — guide their careers.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Meghan says, “I like that right away it’s an intense competition, from episode one. It’s not like everyone’s auditioning just to get to a different level….they are our kings and queens and we love them already, so battle them if you can. I thought that was sick.”

Regarding her judging style, Meghan tells EW, “I don’t really know. I assume that I will be emotional and helpful as much as I can. I think I’m going to be the most musical when I give advice compared to the other guys. But I’ll have a lot of love for these people, because I know what it’s like to be in their shoes.”

In addition to Meghan, the other female star involved with the show is Fergie, who’s the host.  Meghan describes her as “my queen” who, “gets me through everything; she’s the best.”

Regarding her interactions with the other judges, Meghan describes their chemistry as “adorable,” adding, “Even my 95-year-old nana’s gonna love this show, I know it.”

The Four premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
