Melodie Coker with the Community Action Agency Tells How to Receive Valuable Assistance

Melodie Coker, Cherokee County Case Manager for the Community Action Agency, joined us Thursday morning via phone, to share some terrific news regarding several local assistance programs and more:

Ms. Coker went on to say they do still have the popular “Weatherization Assistance Program”, which enables low income families to reduce their energy bills, by making the homes more energy efficient.

Of course all programs are based upon certain criteria including income guidelines – and as mentioned Ms. Coker had two new things to make listeners aware of:

The Community Action Agency serves families residing in Cherokee County – along with St. Clair, DeKalb, Blount, Jackson and Marshall Counties.

What We Can Do to Help Our Community

We assess needs, develop a plan of action, provide direct services, secure needed financial resources, partner with other organizations and serve as an advocate for low-income individuals to help them become more self-sufficient.

Each of us involved in CAA activities in the past are proud of our accomplishments. We know that our agency is much more than a variety of programs to assist low-income individuals; it is a group of people with a true passion to help others. We feel that we have made an invaluable contribution to our area, through the development of innovative and cost effective programs that have helped thousands of people find their way out of poverty. However, we know the paradox of poverty continues today, and we will do all in our power to help that situation.
