Memorial Day Standoff Ends Peacefully – UPDATED

Chattooga County Standoff - 05-27-2013Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader said that he’s still not sure just what prompted a man to begin firing shots at deputies on Memorial Day.

41 year old Randy Hartline was taken into custody on Monday evening following a standoff with law enforcement that shut down a portion of Highway 114 south of Lyerly near Chattoogaville.

Schrader says there was another person in the home with Hartline when the incident first started, fortunately however, he did let that person leave after a short period of time.

It took around 45 minutes to convince Hartline to give himself up – after the other individual was allowed to leave; after being taken into custody without further incident Hartline was transported to a Rome-area hospital for evaluation.

Charges are expected to be brought against Hartline, however as of yet Sheriff Schrader said that the exact charges have yet-to-be determined and the case remains under investigation.

CCSO - Randy Hartline41 year old Randy Hartline is facing a veritable laundry-list of charges in connection with a stand-off with law enforcement officials on Memorial Day.

The incident happened just south of Lyerly, Georgia off Highway 114 that evening.

According to Chattooga County Sheriff, Mark Schrader – that stand-off was the culmination of a number of things and Hartline appeared to be heavily intoxicated when finally taken into custody

Schrader said when they interviewed Hartline on Tuesday, he told investigators that he’d become agitated with his step-father, who had allegedly forbidden him to come on the property – and told him he would not be allowed to see his mother.

When the stand-off occurred Monday, Hartline’s mother was at the residence.

The sheriff says he didn’t believe Hartline intended any harm to his mother, and she was allowed to leave without incident.

Hartline has been charged with six counts of aggravated assault, six counts of simple assault, six counts of reckless conduct, three counts of obstruction of law enforcement officers and also three counts of terroristic threats and acts.

His bond has been set at $100,000.
