Message From Circuit Clerk Dewayne Amos Regarding Reopening Of The Cherokee County Courthouse

The Cherokee County Courthouse is set to open on Tuesday June 2, 2020 and in person hearings resume per Administrative Order of Presiding Circuit Judge Jeremy Taylor and the Cherokee County Commission. The CDC and ADPH guidelines will apply meaning social distancing will be in place.

There will be a limit on the amount of people in the courthouse at a time. Everyone entering the courtrooms will be required to wear a mask. Some litigants may be asked to wait in their vehicles until called to come inside for their hearing. No children will be allowed in the courthouse unless they are part of a court proceeding.

Citizens are encouraged to continue making payments of fines and cost through the Alabama Traffic Service Center or calling the Clerk’s Office at 256-927-3637.  Circuit Clerk Dwayne Amos stated “With the CDC guidelines, only 1 person at a time can be in my office and only 2 more can wait in the hallway.  This could mean a lot of citizens will be standing outside for long periods of time. So please contact my office to see if we can handle your situation by telephone or other electronic means.”
