Microsoft Scam Makes A Return To The Area

The Microsoft Scam has seemingly made its way back to the Cherokee County area. We received an email earlier in the week from an individual informing us of the latest attempt to steal from unsuspected victims.

The scammers called from the number 1-800-102-1100 and when the intended victim answered, a man with a very thick Indian accent told him his Microsoft Windows computer was at severe risk of infection.

The man asked his name and the scammer said that it was John Adams, sounds common enough right? Knowing enough about computers and Microsoft, the intended target quizzed the scammer and asked which Microsoft office he was calling from.

He replied and said he is not with Microsoft but with windows? But Windows is a Microsoft company right? He went on to say that his office is based in New York.

Our would be victim wasn’t having any of it and continued to question the scammer, he asked him what his activation key for windows is and of course the scammer struggled to make up a phony key that had no resemblance to original. The intended victim asked him whose name, without telling him his, the registration was activated thru and no name matched the names used when the victim’s computer was first activated.

When asked malware/anti-virus didn’t catch the infection the scammer replied that “Do you not know how to use my own computer”.

In the end he is selling a means of accessing someone’s computer remotely in order to take your money and also to access your personal information.

As we have told you time and time again, don’t fall for the crafty gimmicks being used by these con artist, they’re seemingly getting smarter and smarter at what they do and go to great lengths to try to con you into falling for their lies.
