Missing Swimmer Found Safe

The swimmer, reported missing late Monday afternoon at High Falls Park, was found alive and well around 1:00pm Wednesday.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said Chad Dylan Black – 35 of a Georgia address – was located on a rock in the river at High Falls near Geraldine.  He had last been seen swimming with a friend at approximately 3:30pm – the friend later called authorities after losing sight of Black.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Fischer Rescue Squad,  staff of High Falls Park, Ft Payne Fire, DeKalb County EMA, Geraldine Rescue Squad, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, Powell Fire, Hendrixville Fire, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency took part in the search.

The day following the initial report heavy rainfall from Hurricane Ida forced crews to postpone the search until the following day.

Crews resumed search efforts early Wednesday, and around 1:00 that afternoon, the subject was located – and was then transported by the DeKalb Ambulance Service for treatment of what appeared to be only minor injuries – a full recovery is expected.
