More Area Residents Reporting “IRS Scam” Telephone Calls

Scam Alert 13As we first reported several days ago area residents have been receiving threatening phone calls from people claiming to with the IRS – and according to several new reports the crooks aren’t yet ready to move on (just to clarify we’re talking about the scam artists, NOT the IRS …don’t wanna ruffle any feathers!).

During that last rash of calls residents were threatened with a lawsuit by someone claiming to be with the IRS and told to contact them at a certain number.

Well, WE called that number and someone answered “IRS”; however as soon as we started to confront them about what they were doing and how we KNOW that the Internal Revenue Service doesn’t work they way – they hung up; as a matter of fact we called them right back, got another person on the phone – and they hung up on us as well.

Those numbers began with a 202 area code – which is a number well known for these types of scams.

The latest calls are coming from the number (314) 449-9390.

We suggest you DO NOT call this number for any reason; however, since it’s kind of our job, we DID call, and we were unable to get anyone to answer so we could pick another fight.

Better luck next time.

Should there actually ever be any issue with your tax returns, the Internal Revenue Service will contact you by mail, NOT over the phone.

No matter what the number is, if you receive a call from anyone claiming to be with the IRS, and they act rude, unprofessional or just plain obnoxious, hang up, forget about it and move on with the rest of your day.
