Mother, Daughter Die in Separate Accidents Just Moments Apart in DeKalb County Tuesday

In a bizarre set of circumstances, a Valley Head woman and her young daughter were both killed in separate accidents within minutes of each other Tuesday afternoon.

According to information provided by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a two-vehicle accident on Highway 117 in Valley Head at 3:00pm claimed the life of Julia Patterson age 39 – who was driving a 2002 Ford and sent two others to the hospital.  Both 54 year old Henry LaViche and 53 year old Tonui LaViche of Meridianville, in a 2014 Dodge, were transported to Erlanger Medical Center for treatment.

Just moments later, at 3:29pm, Patterson’s daughter, whose age has yet to be confirmed but is listed as being somewhere between six and eight – reportedly got off of the school bus on Highway 117, four miles east of Mentone, and was struck and killed by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was listed as a 55 year old Valley Head man.

Both incidents remain under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
