Mr. Jerry Houston Taylor

Jerry Houston Taylor, age 72, of Cedar Bluff, AL. formally of Aragon, GA passed away April 26, 2016. 

Mr. Taylor was born January 25, 1944 in Aragon, GA, son of the late Gilbert Taylor and the late Grace Blalock Taylor. He was a two time Grand Master of the Davitte Masonic Lodge #513 F&AM in Aragon.  Mr.  Taylor lived the majority of his life in Aragon where he was a member of the Euharlee Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  In 2001, he moved to Cedar Bluff, AL and became a member of Ferill Baptist Church and served as a deacon.  Mr. Taylor worked at Rome Plow for 20 years until the company closed down.  He then worked as a mechanic for Prince Street Carpet until declining health forced him into early retirement. 

During his lifetime, Mr. Taylor served the community in volunteer positions including the Aragon Volunteer Fire Dept. and was well known for the hams he cooked for the Aragon BBQ over the years.  Mr. Taylor’s favorite activities included doing the Lord’s work through his church and spending time on a lake fishing.   

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Taylor, Donald Taylor, and Billy Taylor and one sister, Gladean Gibbs.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara Wilson Taylor of Cedar Bluff, AL.  Daughter, Deborah Hulsey and her husband, Phil of Columbia, TN.  Two sons,  Darrin Taylor and his wife, Nancy, of Euharlee,  GA and Michael Taylor of Aragon, Ga.  One brother, Jimmy Taylor of Winder, Ga.  Two sisters,  Judy Wilson of Centre, AL. and Delores Welch of Rockmart, GA.  Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

A Going Home Celebration for Mr. Taylor will be held on Sunday, May 1st at 3:00 pm eastern time in the chapel of The Good Shepard Funeral Home in Rome, GA. with Reverends Stevie Waddell,  Horace Humphrey, and Earl Drummond officiating.  Interment will follow in the family lot of Taylorsville Cemetery with Rev. Dewey Atchley conducting a graveside service.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers:  Blake Smith, Mitch Hulsey, Nick Thompson, Jeremy Born, Stacey Lane,  Austin McCullough and Connor McCullough.  

Honorary pallbearers will be the many nephews of Mr. Taylor.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 30th between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 pm.
