Mr. Watt Andy “Dub” Ellis, Jr.

Mr. Watt Andy “Dub” Ellis, Jr., 87 of Centre, passed away Wednesday, February 26th at Cherokee Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday, March 1st at the Centre First Baptist Church, with Dr. Eddie Nation, Rev. Eric Ellis and Wae Ellis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 until 2:30 P.M. Saturday.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Shattuck Ellis; sons, Watt Andy (Freida) Ellis, III and Bert Shattuck “Shad” Ellis both of Centre; daughters, Susan (Bob) Hood of Vestavia Hills and Lynn (Scott) Curry of Centre; grandchildren, Andrea Ellis (Shane) Givens, Watt Andy “Wae” (Mary) Ellis, IV, Elizabeth(Will) Babb, Sarah Ellis, Lynden Curry and Libby Curry; great-grandchildren, Colin Givens, Ellisan Givens, Asher Ellis, Phoebe Babb, Luke Babb, Lexi Moore; sisters, Blanche Dykes of Centre, Martha (Bob) Leake of Covington, LA and Sara (Al) Swimmer of Lafayette, CA.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Allen; brothers, Jim and John Ellis and a great-grandson, Ian Andy Ellis.

Pallbearers include: Ed Allen, Jr., Earl Dykes, Morgan Dykes, Jimmy Ellis, Charles Ellis, Paul Lea, Bruce Street, Will Stolz and Buzz Howland.

Honorary Pallbearers: Members of the John Ward Sunday School Class, Centre Rotary Club Members,  Employees of Ellis Brothers, Inc. and Sure-Grow Seed Co. and Golf Buddies.

Mr. Ellis was a native of Cherokee County, the son of the late Watt Andy and Linnie Little Ellis, Sr., was a graduate of Auburn University, owner of Ellis Brothers, Inc. and Sure-Grow Seed Co. and was a member of the Centre First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Auburn Alumni Association, charter member of the Centre Rotary Club, member of the Southeastern Seedmen’s Association, the Southeastern Ginner’s Association, the National Cotton Council and American Delinters Association.  He served on the  Cherokee County Board of Education, Chairman of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, president of the Cherokee County Cattlemen’s Association and trustee of Samford University. Mr. Ellis also served on the Soil and Water Conservation Board and the Cherokee Water Authority. He was selected to the Agriculture Hall of Fame at Auburn University.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Centre First Baptist Church Recreational Outreach Center.
